Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting
The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) recognizes both financial reporting and budgeting with their Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting and the Distinguished Budget Presentation awards.
The City of Missoula has received the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting every year since 1997. This is a prestigious award that the City of Missoula has continued to receive over the years. A Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting is valid for one fiscal year.
In order to be awarded a Certificate of Achievement of Excellence in Financial Reporting by the GFOA, a government unit must achieve the highest standards in government accounting. Its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management. The annual report is judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program including demonstrating a constructive spirit of full disclosure to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the annual report.
Distinguished Budget Presentation Award
The GFOAs award for Distinguished Budget Presentation represents a significant achievement by the entity. This award reflects the commitment of the governing body and staff to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting.
