The Missoula Police Department has seen plenty of change over the last 127 years and has grown from the original two man force to nearly 125 full-time civilian and sworn employees. Our web presence is crucial to sharing more information publicly, and striving for greater transparency, including opportunities for feedback through links on the site.
At the second largest municipal police department in the State of Montana, we are proud of the many programs and community partnerships that we have developed over the years. Each of those partnerships are vital to our success in maintaining a community that feels safe and welcoming to our residents and visitors alike. One of our newest partnerships is with the Missoula Downtown Business Improvement District, which is funding a Dedicated Downtown Police Officer for the remainder of this summer season.
Missoula police officers are some of the best trained in the state and receive ongoing training in a wide variety of subjects. In 2012, over 10,000 hours of training were delivered to the employees of the Police Department. While many agencies in the country have been cutting their spending on training due to failing economy, the MPD recognizes the need to continue our training programs as an investment to improve services and reduce liability.
I've had the pleasure of leading this organization for the past four years and am very proud of the highly capable men and women who wear the MPD badge and recognize it as a symbol of public trust. Enjoy your visit to this website and let us hear from you on ways to improve our service.
Sincerely, Chief Mark Muir
