The Crime Prevention Officer's primary objective is to apply proactive efforts and measures aimed at the elimination of criminal incidents, rather than responding to them after they have occurred. In other words, it’s the anticipation, recognition, and appraisal of a crime risk and the initiation of some action to remove or reduce it.
The Crime Prevention Officer is also responsible for the following:
Screening Board members of the Missoula Pre-Release Center
Being a board member of the YMCA Emergency Preparedness team
Overseeing the Graffiti Task Force.
The Missoula Police Department's Crime Prevention Officer is available to provide a wide range of information and presentations to schools, civic organizations, and the general community on the following topics:
Business safety, security, and risk assessment
Residential safety, security, and risk assessment
Using landscaping, lighting, and building design to prevent crime
Motor vehicle and bicycle theft prevention
Our current Crime Prevention Officer is Rob Scheben.
