Septic Tank Effluent Pumping (STEP) System

Reporting Problems / Alarms
If your STEP System sounds an alarm, you can silence it by pushing the RED button on the STEP System control box and then immediately call the Wastewater Treatment Facility at the number located on your box or 406-552-6600. Both of these numbers will reach collection staff at any time, during the day or night including weekends and holidays.
    About STEP Systems
For more information about STEP Systems, see the operating guidelines brochure.
In many established neighborhoods, it is almost impossible to install conventional gravity wastewater collection systems. Septic Tank Effluent Pumping (STEP) Systems are a newer technology that utilizes a leak-proof septic tank, which is installed in each homeowner's yard. The discharge from these new septic tanks is pumped through small diameter pipes to the Wastewater Treatment Plant, where it is treated.

Utilization of STEP System technology has allowed for expansion of the wastewater collection system while minimizing costs and disruption of established neighborhoods.
