City contractors will be burning slash piles on the southwest face of Mt. Sentinel from approximately May 17 to May 22, weather permitting. The contractor has an active burn permit for the project and local emergency services are aware of the activity. This is a large burning project, residents may see substantial smoke from the valley floor. There is no need to call 911 or Missoula Fire to report smoke sightings.
This is a joint City/UM project to thin almost 70 acres of forest on top of Sentinel, which is fully funded by a $67,000 grant awarded to the City by the DNRC. For more information, contact Parks and Recreation Conservation Lands Manager Morgan Valliant.
