Parking at new Barmeyer Loop Trail on Pattee Canyon Rd.

Five Valleys Land Trust and the City of Missoula, in partnership with REI and MTB Missoula, have developed the new 3-mile Barmeyer Loop Trail, located on the foothills of Mount Dean Stone, within the City's South Hills Spur Open Space. The new trail loops through Pattee Canyon’s ponderosa pine and western larch forest on land donated to the City by the Barmeyer family in 2016 and protected using open space bond funds. The trailhead is adjacent to 1355 Pattee Canyon Rd.

The City and its partners have chosen to prioritize open space over parking at the Barmeyer Loop trailhead, and trail users are encouraged to carpool. There are about 10 parking spots at the trailhead. Park at the Gas Works/Gravel Pit parking lot at 600 Pattee Canyon Rd. and carpool to the trailhead, or walk or bike.

Please obey all traffic laws and be a good neighbor to the folks who've so generously donated the land for the trail. The trailhead parking lot was built to accommodate average demand for this trail, and we expect parking issues to resolve quickly as the public's initial excitement about the trail subsides.

The neighbors have requested that folks refrain from parking on Pattee Canyon Road if the parking lot is full. If you have any questions or concerns about Pattee Canyon Rd., please contact the Missoula County Sheriff's Office.  For questions about the trail project, contact Conservation Lands Manager Morgan Valliant.
