Hello,
I am writing on behalf of the City of Missoula to inform you that the City, Missoula County, Poverello Center and Human Resource Council are again partnering to provide an emergency winter shelter in the same location as last year at 1919 North Ave. W. Last year, the City opened the emergency winter shelter program at the Johnson Street Community Center. This shelter served up to 135 people each night during the winter months and preserved many lives. Currently, the Poverello Center is turning people away nightly due to capacity limits, and operating under COVID-19 guidelines means the Poverello can shelter only half the number of people they could serve pre-pandemic. The Johnson Street center will operate again this year from November 1, 2021, through April 2022.
You are invited to learn more, ask questions, and provide comments to staff at the Johnson Street Community Center Open House. Johnson Street Community Center Open House 1919 North Ave West, Missoula October 28, 2021 4 PM – 7 PM
We understand this center impacts surrounding businesses and residents. Our goal is to provide a secure and safe environment for all. Thank you for your understanding. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns. For questions on Poverello operations of the shelter, contact Jesse Jaeger at 406-532-6686 or jjaeger@thepoverellocenter.org.
For questions about the Emergency Winter Shelter program, contact Emily Armstrong at 406-552-6393 or armstronge@ci.missoula.mt.us.
