W. BECKWITH AVE. CLOSED TO THROUGH TRAFFIC STARTING JUNE 6
Water Main Project Replaces Pipe Installed in 1914
The City’s Public Works and Mobility Department is scheduled to begin a water main replacement project on June 6 on Beckwith Ave. from Woodford Ave. to Rollins St. This project will replace approximately 1,430 linear feet of 6-inch kalamein steel water main that was installed in 1914. This is very thin-walled steel that is susceptible to corrosion and leaking. Replacing this segment of main will reduce water leakage and improve water service reliability. In addition, replacing old water main pipe reduces Missoula Water’s energy usage and related costs because the pumps that move water through the pipes will not operate continuously to pump water that just leaks from the system before reaching customers.
The Woodford Ave. to Stephens Ave. portion of the project is expected to be completed by August 10, and the Stephens Ave. to Rollins St. section should be done around Sept. 14. These dates are subject to change due to weather conditions and other unforeseen circumstances. City Street Maintenance crews will install new asphalt on Beckwith Ave. from Stephens Ave. to Brooks St. once all water main work is finished on this street section.
Work will start at Woodford Ave. and move west. We advise residents to follow the detour signs and plan to use a different route when possible. The blocks where the excavation work is taking place will be closed to all traffic, but local access will be allowed once the trenches are filled. Beckwith Ave. will not be fully opened until the paving work is completed.
The contractor for the project is 3 Rivers Construction.
