The Missoula Fire Department responded to a structure fire, of a single family residence, with smoke and flames showing from the windows and roof. Other cooperating agencies that responded include 911, the Missoula Police Dept., Missoula Emergency Services and Northwestern Energy.
On arrival, fire crews found heavy smoke and flames showing from the front and side of the structure. Crews were able to quickly knock down the fire; however, the house did sustain heavy fire and smoke damage. There were no residents home at the time of the fire. Crews did find multiple pets in the house, but resuscitation efforts were not successful for most of the animals. Crews remain on scene performing salvage and overhaul operations.
Station 5’s fire crew responded into town to help cover additional calls. An off-duty crew of firefighters were also called in to help respond to other emergency calls and assist with the structure fire.
The cause of this fire is still under investigation. Any questions should be directed to the Missoula Fire Department’s Fire Prevention Bureau at 552-6210 or Assistant Chief Jeff Brandt at 544-2800.
Every year the Missoula City Fire Department responds to numerous structure fires. The misuse of extension cords or electrical power strips are very hazardous. When too much of a load is placed on improper electrical cords they will fail and may cause a fire and damage to your property.
