Neighborhood Grants

Neighborhood Project Funds
Each year, the Missoula City Council allocates funding for Neighborhood Project Funds. The past few years, the allocation has been $20,000.  The Neighborhood Project Funds are broken down into two categories, funds for large grants and funds for small grants. The process and amounts of grants differ depending on the category.

If you have a project idea and want help getting started, email the Neighborhood Liaison.

Large Grant Program
As part of the Neighborhood Large Project Grant Program, up to $18,000 will be made available offering grants of up to $3,000 to neighborhood organizations, neighborhood councils, non-profit groups, and other individuals for neighborhood projects that enhance the quality of life in our community. The Program invites citizens of Missoula to take pride in their community by developing neighborhood-specific projects that encourage and celebrate our people and place.

Grant applications are submitted in September each year. These grants are intended for:

  • Neighborhood planning - Projects that seek to guide the future direction of a neighborhood
  • Neighborhood improvement - Projects that seek to improve the physical dynamics of a neighborhood
  • Neighborhood outreach - Projects that strengthen neighborhood participation and build opportunities for neighborhood communication, interaction, and problem solving

Small Grant Program
As a part of the Neighborhood Small Project Grant Program, up to $2,000 will be made available offering grants up to $200. Small projects must be within the city limits or benefit city residents. Grants can be applied for on a monthly basis using the Small Grant Application.

The Community Forum will review and approve the small project grant applications at their monthly meetings. These grants can be used for individual projects or combined with other matching funds to fund smaller projects that don't otherwise qualify for large project funds.
