The City Building Codes of Appeals rules on disagreements between the Building Department personnel and those persons being regulated under the Montana State adopted codes. The Board of Appeals is established as required by law to provide a means of having a decision of the building official reviewed by an independent body to assure the applicable code is being properly enforced.
The Board of Appeals shall have no authority or power to waiver any provisions or requirements of the current editions of the Montana adopted building codes.
Membership includes one architect, one licensed engineer, one licensed electrician or electrical engineer, one state licensed master plumber or mechanical engineer and three members at large.
Appointment is by the Mayor and is subject to Council confirmation.
Qualifications include being a resident of the City of Missoula, not a city employee, with experience and training to make decisions about matters pertaining to building construction.
