Mullan BUILD Updates

Hello Missoula neighbors,

Crews are present the week of April 24 - 28 throughout the Mullan area. 

REMINDERS:

 PLEASE WATCH FOR SIGNS AND SLOW DOWN THROUGHOUT THE WORK ZONE. Highway Patrol is present to monitor the construction area. Fines double for traffic violations in the work zone. Thank you for your understanding as we work to keep everyone safe!

 School is in session! Please be mindful of traffic, bicyclists and children in the area.

CONSTRUCTION UPDATE

MARY JANE BOULEVARD

The week of April 24 - 28, construction crews remain near the Mary Jane Boulevard and Mullan Road roundabout. Crews are completing final concrete work in the roundabout medians and sidewalk. Luminaire poles have been placed, and lighting is now present as of Friday, April 14. 

Crews also remain at the north end of Mary Jane Boulevard near Broadway and Flynn Lane, completing utility work and prepping for trails and ADA sidewalks. 

ENGLAND BOULEVARD

Crews have completed dry wells and curb on the future England Boulevard connection. Paving will take place starting May 1, weather permitting. 

GEORGE ELMER DRIVE

Bike path and final roundabout work are taking place on the south end of George Elmer Drive near Mullan Road.

Starting Monday, April 24, crews will be milling on Mullan Road in the Mary Jane Boulevard roundabout. Paving will begin here on May 1. Drivers traveling east will be directed to use the frontage road instead of the southern side of the roundabout through May 3.

 During this time, crews will be completing the following work:

• Fixing curb on the south side of the George Elmer Drive roundabout.

• Milling out the temporary asphalt on Mullan Road.

• Paving the final asphalt.

• Finishing roundabout curbs.

FLYNN LANE

On May 5, the northbound Flynn Lane from England Boulevard to Camden Street will be detoured. 

Flynn Lane will be closed between Chelsea Drive and Mullan Road from May 15 – May 19. Hellgate School and all residents located in this area will have access to their properties.

During this time, drivers will be directed to use Chelsea Drive and England Boulevard to connect to Mary Jane Boulevard as a detour to Mullan Road and Reserve Street.

Crews are filling in potholes and line painting at Flynn Lane and Mullan during this time.

Traffic control will be present, and drivers may experience delays. Delays of up to 10 to 15 minutes can be anticipated when traveling throughout the project area from March to June, weather dependent.  

The Montana Department of Transportation, Broadway and Mary Jane Boulevard intersection signal work will begin mid-April and will be wrapped up this summer, weather permitting. There will be no road closures/detours throughout construction. However, traffic control will be present, and drivers will likely be limited to one lane for certain periods. In addition, the Montana Department of Transportation will conduct pavement preservation operations on West Broadway, also known as Old Hwy 10 (US 10), from the intersection of West Broadway and US Highway 93 (US 93), near Love’s Truck Stop to the Reserve Street overpass, north of Costco. Construction will begin April 24, 2023, and continue for approximately 10 weeks.

Missoula County received a $13 million federal BUILD grant to construct a new infrastructure network in the Mullan Road area. The federal grant, coupled with $8 million of local funding from the City and County, will support the first phase of the Mullan BUILD project construction. A network of streets will be built to improve connectivity and provide access to current and future homes and businesses. The BUILD project will ultimately play an integral role in how Missoula grows.
