June 2024 Northside Pedestrian Bridge Project UpdateThe Northside Pedestrian Bridge renovation project remains within budget and on track for a late July reopening. Jackson Contractor Group is finalizing fit and finish tasks, and crews have removed concrete slabs from the pocket park and brought in topsoil for redevelopment. Over the next two months, local subcontractors will complete various tasks, including: - Install new electrical panels and energy-efficient LED lighting on the bridge and towers.
- Paint and seal new concrete walls, treat hand railings and barrier fences and treat new steel to resist corrosion.
- Implement a new drainage system for the bridge decks and install water service for park irrigation and bridge cleaning.
- Replace concrete curbs, sidewalks, and entry stairs on the front of the N. 1st St W. tower. The intersection of N. 1st St W and Grand Ave. will remain closed until the bridge reopens.
- Replace metal hand railings and repair barrier fences.
Parks and Recreation staff are planning improvements for the pocket park adjacent to the north tower. The department will soon solicit bids for a new irrigation system, sod, trees, and benches. Work could start shortly after the bridge reopens if the City receives a qualified bid within budget. Watch for more updates on park improvements in the next project update.
