Westside Area
Water Main Project
Begins Week of March 3
Dear Northside-Westside and Heart of Missoula Neighbors,
The City of Missoula's Public Works & Mobility Department is scheduled to begin a water main project in your area the week of March 3, 2025, with completion expected around mid-June. The project includes work on N. Dickens St., Cooper St. (N. Dickens St. to Holmes St.), Milton St. and Holmes St. between Cooper St. and Toole Ave., and Toole Ave. from Milton St. to McCormick St.
There will be several street closures and detours as the contractor completes the work. Detour maps are available on the City’s website at www.ci.missoula.mt.us/2668/Water-Projects. Please drive slowly and cautiously through the neighborhood detour routes. Also note that some sidewalks and crosswalks may be closed during construction.
This project replaces 1,500 linear feet of 6-inch Kalemein water main originally installed in 1914 in Dickens, Cooper, Milton, and McCormick streets. Work also includes installation of 600+ linear feel of new water main in Cooper Street from Milton to Holmes.
These sections of water main were prioritized for replacement due to their age and material type, which make them susceptible to leakage. In addition, replacing old pipe that is prone to leaks improves the water system and reduces the amount of electricity needed to pump water that never makes it to water customers. The new main will connect two sections of main, which improves the system, and includes additional fire protection for the adjacent homes and businesses.
The contractor for the project is 3 Rivers Landworks.
All project dates are subject to change due to inclement weather conditions or other unforeseeable circumstances.
Additional information, a project area map, and detour maps are posted on the City website at www.ci.missoula.mt.us/2668/Water-Projects. Project updates will be posted to this web page if necessary.
