For immediate release September 17, 2025

Duncan Dr. Trailhead Construction Project Begins Week of Sept. 22

A new parking area will be constructed at the Duncan Dr. Trailhead beginning the week of Sept. 22. This trailhead project will improve access to existing and new trails as well as provide additional parking, improve safety in the City right-of-way, and provide a more welcoming launch point for the trail system. The parking lot construction is expected to be completed around mid-October, depending on weather and other factors.

The trail will be accessible during construction, but trail users are encouraged to travel to the trailhead on foot or by bike or to use alternate trailheads, such as the Lincolnwood Trailhead or the Rattlesnake National Recreation Area main trailhead. To allow adequate space for construction, no parking will be allowed in the Duncan Dr. cul-de-sac area and parking restrictions will be enforced.

A Montana Fish, Wildlife, and Parks Recreational Trails Program grant provided most of the funding for project construction. Missoula Parks and Recreation staff will complete some of the work, including tree removal, seeding, planting, installing a bear resistant trash can, installing a bike rack, and constructing fencing and trail sections, to reduce project costs.

Project details and plans are provided on the City’s website at www.ci.missoula.mt.us/3233/Current-Projects.
