Greetings from all the staff at Municipal Court!

Municipal Court is the judicial branch of the City of Missoula. As a court of record, we have the same duties as a District Court. We deal with major and minor traffic violations; city ordinance violations; misdemeanor criminal charges citations, which includes charges such as theft, assault, possession of dangerous drugs and minor in possession of alcohol; disorderly conduct; and criminal mischief. We also handle partner/family member assault citations, and we issue Orders of Protection. We also collect fines and restitution and make sure the restitution gets to victims of crime. We hold both jury and non-jury trials, and as the administrator and clerks, we do the work that supports the rulings of our Judges, Kathleen Jenks and Sam Warren.

The court’s tasks include entering citations into our data base, setting payment plans, locating victims of crime or accidents, setting up jail time, issuing warrants for arrest – in short, we work to hold defendants accountable for their actions.

Thank you for visiting our page today, and please visit frequently. The court is staffed with twelve clerks to assist you when you come in. We will keep you informed of changes in the court as they take place and put information out here that will help you understand how the court is here to work with you. Please feel free to contact us at any time with questions. It may not always be easy to walk through our doors, but our goal is to serve the citizens of Missoula with the best service we can provide.
