The City of Missoula’s Houseless Programs emerged from the creation of Reaching Home: Missoula’s 10-Year Plan to End Homelessness, created by the City of Missoula, United Way, and Missoula County and launched in 2012. The shared belief that housing is the ultimate solution to houselessness remains the driving force behind our efforts to support our neighbors who are unhoused. 

Since the creation of the 10-Year Plan, the City has committed to working with partners to create a spectrum of shelter and housing options that meet Missoulians where they are on their housing journey, from low-barrier shelter to permanent housing solutions. 

The Missoula Coordinated Entry System (MCES) was created in 2017 as one of the solutions identified in the 10-Year Plan. This system aims to prevent and divert households from entering the houseless system, reduce duplication of services, provide data to improve outcomes, and prioritize limited housing resources. Coordinated Entry not only saves lives, but it saves our community money as well. Over 40 partners have signed on as partners of this system since 2017, including non-profit organizations, school systems, law enforcement, and many more. See the Missoula Coordinated Entry System page to learn more!
