Energy

How we power our community has an enormous impact on our greenhouse gas emissions, which contribute to climate change and its serious impacts on our community as well as communities around the world. Emissions from our homes, businesses, and transportation account for 94% of our community’s greenhouse gas emissions as of 2019. By powering our community with clean energy sources, we can significantly reduce those emissions.

As a critical first step, the City of Missoula and Missoula County have committed to achieving 100% clean electricity by 2030 for the Missoula Urban Area. By receiving our electricity from 100% clean sources, we pave the way to reduce our emissions even further as we transition our buildings and transportation to run on that clean electricity instead of polluting fuels like methane, gasoline, and diesel.
