Community Growth Policy Workshops December 13 Missoula Public Library 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.

TONIGHT! Let us know what you value in your neighborhood and learn about the Our Missoula: Growth  Policy Update and Code Reform project! The City of Missoula is hosting a Community Growth Policy Workshop to launch the update to the Growth Policy as part of the Our Missoula project. We'll have refreshments, activities, and a presentation to get us started. Bring your thinking caps and your great ideas!

This workshop will help the City confirm how well the current Growth Policy captures our community values and if we need to update our vision. Since the City’s current Growth Policy, Our Missoula 2035, was adopted in 2015, more pressing issues have emerged, including social, cultural and racial inequities, housing shortages and rising housing costs and the worsening effects of climate change.

  • Wednesday, December 13th, 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. – Missoula Public Library 4th Floor

The Our Missoula: Growth Policy Update and Code Reform Project will update our community’s vision for future growth and change our development regulations to reflect that collective vision. More information about upcoming events will be available on the Events page.

If anyone attending a meeting needs special assistance, please provide 48 hours advance notice by calling 406-552-6221.

Why are we Updating the Growth Policy?

Priorities for future growth are captured in the city’s Growth Policy, which defines strategies to address goals and challenges related to land use over the course of 20 years. While many of the priorities of the current Growth Policy remain relevant, the Our Missoula process will provide an opportunity to refocus the Growth Policy as needed to better address these emergent issues and reflect our current priorities as a community.

What Have We Been Up To?

Engagement throughout the summer and fall focused on the findings of the Equity in Land Use Report as part of Phase 2 of the Our Missoula Code Reform project, which is dedicated to defining the problem. Staff hosted presentations, small discussions, and table talks in partnership with Common Good Missoula. We learned from residents about their lived experiences in relation to equity, housing affordability, displacement and gentrification. Tonight's workshop will expand on these conversations to continue defining what residents value and prioritize in their neighborhoods now and in the future.

Transform Brooks - Connect Midtown Survey

On November 16, 2023, the Transform Brooks – Connect Midtown Study public event was hosted to share information about the study and gather feedback from the public regarding their priorities as designers begin the challenging work of laying out how bus rapid transit, bicycle/pedestrian connections, and the vehicle traffic lanes can fit and function along Brooks Street to improve safety and mobility.

If you could not attend or if you'd like to see the information again, the boards shared at the meeting can be viewed or downloaded here.

A short survey is now available online. The survey will take approximately five minutes to complete and must be submitted by December 19, 2023. Complete the Transform Brooks – Connect Midtown Survey here. Gathering feedback from the community is crucial to ensure that the Brooks Street transportation corridor is developed to meet the community's needs and desires, resulting in a successful project.

Public Comment Opportunity for Opportunity Resources Inc. 3rd St. Property

The City of Missoula seeks public comment on environmental cleanup alternatives for the Opportunity Resources Inc. (ORI) property located at 901 South 3rd Street West, Missoula, Montana. ORI intends to clear the site to allow for redevelopment that will include new commercial space and an approximately 24-unit affordable housing complex.

The City has prepared an Analysis of Brownfields Cleanup Alternatives (ABCA) that presents a summary of known environmental conditions on the site, an evaluation of cleanup alternatives, and a proposed remediation plan that will serve public interest and protect human health and the environment.

The City will use funding from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to cover the full remediation costs related to cleanup of hazardous building materials and lead in soils.

Residents can review the ABCA online for a 30-day comment period from November 18, 2023, to December 18, 2023. The City encourages the public to review the proposed plan and ask questions or provide comments. Public comments will be considered when selecting cleanup methods and a contractor.
