Do bicycles have to follow the same rules as vehicles on the road?

Yes. Bicyclists must follow the same traffic laws and rules as cars with a few exceptions.

Here are five key "rules of the road" to keep in mind:

  1. Always ride with traffic.
  2. Obey all traffic signs and lights.
  3. Use hand signals when turning or changing lanes.
  4. Ride with front and back lights at night.
  5. Yield to pedestrians.
